Deck Armor's hand-troweled rubber flooring adds roughly 1 lb per square foot once it's fully cured. That's the number we work from when we're talking to owners with tow vehicles rated on the lighter end, or captains who watch every pound on a tournament boat headed out past John's Pass.

We're not going to dress that up. A bay boat with a cockpit and casting deck picks up about 1 lb per square foot once the floor is in. For most recreational boats that is a negligible addition that does not affect how the boat runs.

Why Boaters Ask This Question Before They Buy

Anyone comparing marine flooring options eventually asks about weight, and for good reason. A few real concerns drive it:

• Trailer capacity. Owners running smaller trailers rated close to their boat's actual weight want to know if flooring eats into that margin.
• Tow vehicle limits. Half-ton trucks and SUVs towing from Salt Creek or Pasadena marinas are already carrying fuel, gear, and coolers.
• Performance on smaller hulls. A Hewes or Maverick built for flats fishing is sensitive to added weight up high on the deck.
• Fuel economy and hole shot. Nobody wants a slower pop off the throttle because of a deck upgrade.

That's also why there's no templating or pattern cutting involved. We match the floor to your deck in the shop.

The result is a floor that sits close to the deck itself, which keeps the added weight low and keeps it where a boat can carry it without any real effect on trim or balance.

Does It Affect Handling or Trailering in Practice?

No. At about 1 lb per square foot, the added weight is small next to fuel, gear and passengers, whether the boat is a center console, a bay boat or one of the pontoons we floor.
