Why Rubber Marine Flooring Doesn't Peel, Bubble, or Curl Like Foam Mats

Deck Armor is hand-troweled rubber and epoxy marine flooring, installed at our Tampa shop for boats across Tampa Bay and Florida. Our floor does not peel, bubble, or curl because it has no sheet and no glue layer to let go. Get a free estimate or call (813) 434-0395.

What peeling, bubbling, and curling need

Peeling, bubbling, and curling need a sheet that is glued to the deck. An edge lifts, a pocket forms under the sheet, or a corner curls up.

Foam decking is sold as glued-down sheets. If your floor is lifting, that glue line is where it starts. Our floor has no sheet, no glue line, and no edge to lift.

What our floor is made of

Virgin, playground-grade rubber granules are bound in marine-grade epoxy. That is a permanent rubber and epoxy mix.

We trowel it onto the deck by hand. It bonds to the deck itself and cures into one continuous floor.

How we install it

  1. Prep the deck. Old flooring comes off first. Removal is a paid add-on that adds about a day.
  2. Trowel the floor. Our certified installers work the mix across the deck by hand. It follows the exact shape of your boat.
  3. Cure. Install takes roughly 1 to 2 days. Curing takes about 3 days.

Every install happens at our Tampa shop. If your boat is in the water or you have no trailer, we meet you at a boat ramp, haul the boat to the shop, and bring it back.

Why no glue layer matters

There are no seams to open. There are no glued edges to lift. There is no adhesive layer to fail.

The floor is slip-resistant wet, dry, or fully submerged. It stays comfortable barefoot, with a light anti-fatigue cushion. It weighs about 1 pound per square foot. Rubber does warm up in the sun, and a quick rinse cools it right back down.

Where we install

We install on horizontal surfaces, the ones parallel to the water. That covers cockpit floors, bow decks, and pontoon decks.

Cosmetic gel coat cracks get installed over. A deck that is soft or flexes needs your glass shop to repair it first. We do not do fiberglass or structural repair.

See what a full job looks like in our pontoon reflooring walkthrough.

If your foam is already lifting

You can strip the old flooring yourself before drop-off. Or we remove it as part of the install, which adds about a day.

Our guide to replacing peeling foam boat decking walks through the steps. For a side-by-side, read marine rubber vs EVA foam in Florida.

Know this before you book. Our floor bonds permanently and cannot be cleanly removed later. We install it once.

Wear, warranty, and care

Here is how Dave puts it: after 8 to 10 years of heavy use you will see some granules begin to release, but you still will have a full usable floor. The floor never needs resealing or refinishing.

Warranty is for the lifetime of ownership by the original purchaser on recreational boats. Captain and commercial boats carry 10 years. It is non-transferable and covers defects in materials or workmanship.

Care is simple:

  • Rinse with fresh water. A pressure washer is fine at 2000 PSI or less, nozzle at least 12 inches away.
  • For a deeper clean, use Comet or Ajax with bleach at a 3:1 mix and a soft-bristle brush.
  • Clean up gas spills right away. Petroleum damages the binder.
  • Skip liquid soap and steel wool.

Our care flyer has the full list. Damage from improper cleaning or from a pressure washer used too close or above 2000 PSI is not covered.
