No. Deck Armor marine rubber flooring grips when it is wet, dry, or fully submerged. We hand-trowel it into boats at our Tampa shop, and you can get a free estimate at our contact page or by calling (813) 434-0395.
Why Wet Gel Coat Is the Real Slip Risk
Smooth gel coat feels fine when it is dry. Add rain, a wet bait bucket, or a rinse after a day on the water, and it turns slick.
Many boaters have gotten used to that. They walk carefully on the bow of a Yellowfin or Pathfinder and never question it. A floor that needs careful footwork is not giving you grip.
How Rubber Holds Traction Wet
The surface is textured rubber, so your feet grip it regardless of moisture. Water does not change how it feels underfoot.
It also has a light anti-fatigue cushion, so it is soft on bare feet. You get grip and comfort from the same floor.
Fully Submerged Is Covered Too
The floor stays slip-resistant when it is under water.
That matters in a few places:
- Swim platforms on a Bennington or Catalina, where kids climb out of the water onto wet steps.
- Poling platforms and casting decks on the flats of Tampa Bay and Boca Ciega Bay.
- Ramp-day loading at Demens Landing, Coffee Pot Bayou, and Maximo Park, where the deck is wet before you leave the dock.
Worn Foam Loses Its Texture
EVA foam, including SeaDek and similar products, comes with a diamond or grooved texture. Sun, salt, and foot traffic wear that texture down.
Once the high-traffic spots go smooth, the grip goes with them. You usually see it first around the helm, the cockpit edge, and the stern.
Foam is also a sheet cut into pieces and glued down. Edges lift, and water gets underneath. We cover that in our rubber versus EVA foam breakdown.
One Surface, No Panel Edges
We trowel the rubber in by hand, so the floor is one continuous surface shaped to your exact deck. There are no pieces to peel or curl at the corners.
That keeps the traction consistent from bow to transom. You do not hit a slick patch where one panel ends and another begins.
The rubber bonds permanently. You install it once and do not replace it every few years. New to the product? Start with what marine rubber flooring actually is.
What About Heat?
Rubber warms up in the Florida sun, like any deck surface. A quick rinse with fresh water cools it back down.
It is soft and slip-resistant, so it is comfortable barefoot. We wrote a full guide on barefoot comfort and heat on rubber decks.
Keeping the Grip
Cleaning is easy. Rinse with fresh water after salt trips and use a soft brush on stains or algae.
The texture is part of the rubber itself. It is not a coating that wears through in the spots you walk on most.
What an Install Looks Like
Standard installs happen at our Tampa shop. Installation takes roughly 1 to 2 days, then the floor cures for about 3 days.
The finished floor weighs about 1 pound per square foot. Every floor is a hand-blended mix of three or more of our 24 colors. We can trowel your logo into the floor too.
No trailer, or your boat is in the water? We meet you at the ramp, haul it to the shop, and bring it back. Lifetime warranty on recreational boats, 10 years on captain and commercial boats.
